track and field
The tile-system adds to the multiplicity of the surface. It is applied to the surface of the cone-landscape in order to differentiate its accessibility. Intended paths are marked with hard materials, like pine tree wood slices and gravel. Secluded areas invite for a rest and are covered with gras and thyme. Not accessible surfaces are marked with fescue and box trees, creating an additional modulation of the field. With not one planar surface, “the hortus conclusus” is turned into a dynamic space which evokes physical adaptation to the surrounding rather than contemplation. It allows the visitor to chose and to settle himself within a specific spatial condition. The cones are made from soil. If necessary, the walls can be additionally supported. Towards the aisle, a corten-steel plate holds the cones in shape and keeps light coming in. The unfolded plans of the cones allow locating the cones, the planting and covering, which are kept in shape by a supporting frame structure.
