Since its inauguration 40 years ago, the highway A3 between Bagnara Calabra and Scilla, as part of the European network of highways, has had almost no contact with the local community. Now the time has come that the decommissioned highway will finally serve the local community by turning it into a power park - bringing the existing land-art structure to a higher level. Using the given conditions of streets, viaducts, and tunnels for an interlocking system of green energy production, it will serve the inhabitants of about 20.000 people. Next to producing power for the inhabitants of Scilla, Bagnara and Favazzina, it will also serve as a an outpost testing ground for the cutting edge “Istituto Donegani” and an experience trail for all ages, bringing the latest Italian technology to the public. The energy system takes advantage of 3 different conditions of the highway structure (street /viaduct /tunnel) for a compatible renewable energy use, becoming a network of power production.
