How to convert the modern-industrial-infrastructure highway into a post-industrial unique urban landscape becomes essential. The existing highway is composed of viaducts and tunnels and already integrated within the local landscape and collective imagination, thus the idea is to maximally preserve the spatial structure of the S-N way and to rebuild it into a natural way full of vegetation and wild in order to slowdown the speed of the nature-cutting traffic line and integrate it back into the nature. Vegetation, water, tunnels, paths and the ever changing landscape bring people a unique spatial experience so that people can enjoy the landscape details on a highway. The decommissioned highway stretching between the mountains becomes a hanging garden connecting the surrounding countries. It also becomes the most unique cultural landscape of the south Italian coast. |
