Currently, the physical connections in the area are poor. By taking inspiration from a vine plant a more sinuous movement network is created; Solar Park South becomes the central stem, and has many branches that extend into and become embedded in the beautiful surrounding landscape. The current function of the highway as a passage of kinetic energy can be improved to become part of a sustainable energy flow. Reggio Calabria has huge potential for solar energy. The introduction of solar panels along the N-S highway can generate electricity, which in turn can be used to fuel a new generation of electric vehicles. By implementing electric vehicle hire & return points at both ends of the park, it will become the seed for change in the area. Whilst the N/S ‘energy highway’ continues to facilitate and encourage the use of electric vehicles, the S/N highway grows to become an energy park of people, research, and production of renewable energies.
