We will bring together design, ecology, and engineering to develop a model system for the reuse of the decommissioned carriageway as a linear technology park for experimental ecology and energy. The final passage along the highway will be a fleet of container trucks that will stop and park as though suspended in time. Each of the trailers will be outfitted for research and technology start-up companies – a 10km office trailer park. The iconic viaducts are suited to suspend solar chandeliers, wind generators and hanging crop gardens such as grapes and bergamont. The long stretch of highway is suitable as test lots for advanced agricultural research into biofuel crops, sunflowers (nature’s heliostats), citrus and olives. The co-existence of park and technology will provide a fresh language for the public landscape. The tunnels are imagined as eco-hotels, cooled and lit by the sun. Solar panel shading structures form a continuous Sky Line for a productive public lifestyle. |
