The elements made available by dismantling of a stretch of motorway could be used to transform the area. If grouped together they offer great potential for creating a new role for this space. The ‘mosaic’-panorama, surroundings and characteristics of the countryside offer some great opportunities for creative planning. These should be geared towards minimising ecological impact on the environment and creating new energy resources while at the same time protecting the nature of the area. If carried out sensitively this could become an important attraction to tourism. The southern entrance, flanked by giant ‘Bronzes of Riace’ sentinels, opens onto a walkway which threads alongside solar panels, wind turbines, greenhouses, hydroponic culture areas, ‘giardini dei Semplici', and then beside a passive cooling system, leading finally to the wind turbines at the northern exit, while a coastal laser-beam marks an emerging outline against the sky of a scenic planned ensemble.
