The Solar Park expands from the roadway to both landscape and sky, with minimal impact on the surrounding environment. Visitors can branch onto various trails (1) or float up from the viaducts to gain a peaceful airborne view (2). In this way the unique geological features (3) and natural history of Calabria are revealed from two strikingly different perspectives. The roadway and tunnels are re-used as a service infrastructure (4) to connect laboratories for new materials and full-scale prototyping of fuel-free airborne carriers of the future (5). The heliostats also become an infrastructure for energy collection (6), transport (7), and prototype field testing (8). Flight by Sunlight pioneers the development of sustainable flight in parallel with a unique display of the Calabrian environment. This would create a strong draw for tourists and researchers alike, fueling the regional economy and thrusting Calabria into the forefront of the global discourse on sustainability. |
