The solarfall bases its technology on a system developed by the company Bluenergy Solarwind. The Bluenergy Solarwind turbine is a helical tower clad with photovoltaic cells. Our proposal takes this innovation one step further and links a series of lightweight teflon solar turbines, each 5m high, and supports them against the bridge. The primary load of the turbines is transferred into foundations, while the bridge provides lateral support. This approach makes use of the high wind energy associated with the coastal region as well as its high levels of solar energy. By stacking the turbines vertically, with flexible linkages to mitigate wind load, 500 5kW turbines can be supported across the example we have illustrated. We propose to install the turbines along the length of the old Autostrada and to use all disused tunnels for electricity storage and transfer.
