urban future organization - profile

Founded in London in 1996, urban future organization seeks to address the issues relating to the development of urbanity and architecture within contemporary culture.

The organization operates as a network of independent architectural offices, each office responding to its own locale whilst being able to draw on the resources of a global collective. To date, this includes offices in Greece, Italy, Netherlands and the UK. New offices in Barcelona and Seoul are opening in the near future.

Staff
Members within the organization share philosophies of intensive collectivity, group collaboration, and the ideas and visions of quality that facilitate future developments in architectural production and urban development. The overall structure of Urban Future Organization seeks to elicit work, which expands the notion of the spatial envelope, provides sensitive responses to context and use, and provokes dialogue within the architectural profession. The Organization has an international agenda, yet maintains the specific qualities of local diversity.

Its members are multi national design professionals, who conduct their work through intensive collaboration. Urban future organization has professional backgrounds ranging from the execution of a single residential house to national concert hall.

Consultants
Urban future organization co-operates closely with a number of consultants. We have established close working team relationships that constantly seek explorative and innovative solutions that inform, influence, and embellish the project design process. Recently urban future organization has worked on a number of projects in collaboration with Adams Kara Taylor Engineers, BDSP Partnership and Davis Langdon & Everest, Jane Wernick Engineers, Arup Management and Arup International.

urban future organization - motivation

It is always a great and fantastic opportunity for young ambitious and enthusiastic architects to take up new architectural design challenges. With our past experience in various projects, we understand the importance of not only the project itself, but also the impact it will bring to the space and the surroundings as a whole.

In architecture today, it is not sufficient to directly implement an existing building typology; it requires the architects to redefine carefully the project with a new intervention of a new programmatic typology. A project should be able to activate and animate the space, and to encourage user participation and interaction with the new spatial and programmatic topography.

We are interested in providing an innovative and sensitive architectural service. Our aims are to be effective and efficient and to consider ecological and ergonomic factors that are instrumental for the future. We intend to deliver an integrated and maximised architectural solution with flexibility in programmes and inter-relation of spaces that create the maximum project possibilities provoking the sense of a new space and future for the user.

urban future organization - approach

Our project approach is user oriented, integrated and multi disciplinary. We are aiming for architecture that performs through spatial and programmatic continuum.
Working with client groups and user groups are our prime strategy. A project would begin with a series of investigations of the current operation of the existing and the local conditions. A cross analysis of existing and new users and programmes will define the primary target.

With further examination of the successful typologies and examples, it is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the current model. We will explore the potentials in the organisation of programmes, events, time schedules, spatial structures, action and interaction of users as well as the sense of spatial structures and relationships.

The study of future changes and projective possibilities has a direct impact unto the flexibility of any given project. New events and variations will redefine the scope of work with the client. A series of various possibilities will evolve alongside the on-going discussion about qualities and multiplicities. The landscape and the urban context and its integration with any project play a major role in formulating our design propositions in our projects.
