| this winning entry for the conceptual phase of a competition to design a new art house for hotel pro forma proposes an argument for performance spaces of the future in the temporal and commercial aspects of a hotel. checking-in is redefined as an ongoing digital transaction through variable commercial zones, allowing guest-performers and passers-by the freedom to select their arts program, duration of stay and level of service desired. this appropriation of a hotel's organizational principles rewrites the art institution as a responsive matrix of services. the building is a responsive environment that allows users to surf the hotel, choosing when to hit a site, activate certain spaces and by-pass others. --- in collaboration with field office |
