parachute pavilion new york (usa) 2005
starting from the most definitely characterising trait of the site, namely the boardwalk, the pavilion has been integrated in a fluid and dynamic continuum, with itineraries on different levels, similar to the way a wave behaves: always different and changeable. in this spirit, the roof is transformed into a sort of whirling, undulating spiral, lined with wooden boards like the walkway, reflecting its playful nature. in addition to being reminiscent of a wave, the overall aspect may also resemble a roller coaster (in the supporting structure, for example) or a coiled serpent.
