Panorama terrace and lookout point
Breskens
For the small city of Breskens, Buro Lubbers designed two characteristic coastal objects: a lookout point near the boat slip and a panoramic terrace in the dunes. Citizens and visitors of the lively fishing port can now watch the boats from a sheltered spot of man-sized walls or climb the sturdy stairs of the terrace to get a breath of fresh air while enjoying the grand sea view. Both objects are clearly related. They are similar in form language, materialisation and multi-functionality; they interact with the geographic relief. Above all, both objects harmonise with the rugged character of the harbour and the coast. The typical silver grey colour of the wood (bilinga) refers to the shades of colour of air, sea and land. The weathering allocates a lively charisma to the wood and makes the forceful powers of the elements tangible. And so the objects defy the barren landscape of water and wind year by year.
