On this magnificent native site, large-scale indigenous grassland restoration collides with bold architectural landscape elements of natural materials. The result is a sculptural landscape that responds to the outstanding borrowed views to the south and the west. The seasonal patterns, wind, fog, and light quality endlessly transform the space through time. The landscape master plan promotes contextual solutions that visually connect and scale the built landscape to its surroundings. The planting restoration established seamless connections to the native plant communities and ecologies surrounding the project. This project provided us with learning and research opportunities and through careful site analysis this ultimately informed the patterns and design of the landscape.
