The characteristic roman plan is still clear and visible in the geometry of Gloucester’s streets; the following cities fit in roman structure without changing the general design. The public realm of this competition are part of this ancient orthogonal mesh: to bring out the possibility of a renewal on the basis of an urban theme, made up of tracks, ideograms and figures that simply are already there and waiting to be interpreted. Our proposal is based on values which are characteristic of many european open spaces, where the historical sedimentation of the city has created spaces inside the city that basically have the richness and character of large “urban lounges”. These spaces have allowed greater flexibility in the real use by the public.
