The brief called for a union of Plecnik’s historically protected Kongresni square with adjacent Zvezda Park, to produce a larger vehicle-free zone with even LARGER underground parking. The proposed scheme takes Kongresni square’s existing gridded ‘stone’ surface and spills it out and under the adjacent Zvezda Park, floating the historical park, simultaneously bathing it in the soft glow now produced by the grid. All vertical circulation (stairs, elevator from parking, and pedestrian gateway) is bundled together in the form of three differently sized glass cylinders which oscillate from reflective folie during the day to ghostly lighting at night.
