New Leyden house
New Leyden, Leiden
The house will be situated on a corner-plot in Nieuw Leyden – a former factory area at the edge of the town center of Leiden. The design concept is based on the idea that each floor takes optimal benefit of different views given by the corner-situation of the plot. This resulted in 3 levels with 3 different spatial orientations and programs, integrated in one vertical structure. The top floor is used as a penthouse for living and cooking. The space is getting wider towards the front facade so that it overlooks a park. The 1st floor consists of a more intimate, sleeping area, the space becoming more narrow towards the street. On the ground floor there is a garage and a loggia which serves as an entrance. By rotating the side facade on each level into an opposite direction, terraces are created, giving each floor its own outdoor space. This project was made in collaboration with Sophie Valla Architect.
