| 11/9 pentagon memorial |
arlington, va - u.s.a. 2002 |
|
| the pentagon memorial is conceived as a quit and receptive space, yet at the same time, powerful and emotionally evocative, with the ultimate intent to invite visitors to meditate on the scale of the tragedy of september 11, 2001, to interrogate their souls and to rediscover the sense of community sharing the same ideals.
a double wall placed perpendicularly to an axis (oriented along the approximate path of the hijacked aircraft that hit the pentagon building) is meant to be the architectural translation of the sense of fierce opposition that the american people and the entire world share against the terrorist insanity. the enormous scale of the tragedy is dramatically shown by 184 holes projecting rays of light in the in between corridor of the circular wall.
