The project doesn’t envisage the realization of new buildings, except a series of panoramic cocoons scattered along the park, as pebbles in a fairy tale, to point out its presence and guide the visitor, without heavily impacting on the landscape. The unused structures of the old highway host new activities and functions, divided into three thematic areas. The strong impact on the landscape of the Costa Viola viaduct is mitigated by the use of vegetation, turning it into a green backbone that integrates and connects a visiting center, parking lots, solar fields, playgrounds, cultural and leisure facilities. The park’s second stretch is a sequence of viaducts and galleries dedicated to research laboratories and interactive exhibitions. A scenic monorail allows the visitor to enjoy the stunning panoramic view. The third thematic area, due to its peculiar position dominating the awesome landscape of the straight of Messina, is intended as an observatory to monitor this unique landscape.
