The Parco Solare competition presents an interesting paradox. How to revitalize infrastructure that has partly lost its function with a new programme that does not directly conform to its spatial characteristics? Parco Solare has to be a logical energy production area in order to sustain. The best place for the viaduct to supply this, is where it has the largest surface area. This is situated on its sides and columns. Even if it is not always in full sun, the solar intensity here is enough to be effective. In this way Parco Solare can become a design which stresses the beauty of the construction of the viaducts with a new cladding of solar panels. The viaduct can be revived as a solar plant that holds the beauty of a beveled diamond. The different viaducts together form a necklace for the entire region that shows itself in full splendor towards the sea. This symbol allows the infrastructure on top of the viaducts to become relevant again as a connector between local communities. |
