In the Italian collective imaginary, a relevant role is by now occupied by the environmental themes, by images of endangered nature and of territories ravaged by the anthropization. Among the possible “ideals” that the landscape design can determine to express, there is then the environmental sustainability. This is by far true in the case of the Salerno – Reggio Calabria highway, where to years of bad operative management, a “daring” design of the original layout (with its extraordinary reinforced concrete viaducts by Moretti e Nervi) has been added which, even by this time part of coastal profile, commonly it is identified as a real “landscape disrupt”. Therefore the first option that the proposed design solution deems to operate is that to realize a landscape promenade that enhances the viaducts, like landscape indissoluble presence.
