Existing highway is used as support for photovoltaic (PV) structures, carefully knitted of PV modules, which partially envelope concrete construction of the highway, but at the same time design cares that PVs adequately visually communicate with the context. Such light concept induces design which is in a harmony with the surrounding landscape and even makes it looks more blooming and animating. On the south-north carriageway, there is a PV demo-site with applied different PV technologies as free standing elements. PV demo-site is approachable by car or by organized "solar mini train" and will be used for educational and research purposes. PVs are used as multifunctional elements: besides production of electrical energy, they are applied as shelters, canopies, noise barriers, elements for performance testing and monitoring. We maximally utilize existing supporting infrastructure of the highway what significantly reduces total costs which are estimated as 700-800 EUR/m2.
