Made in Earth (MiE) is a non-profit organization that carries out humanitarian projects implementing buildings for needy communities in developing countries. Architecture is a discipline with social engagement, responsible towards people and environment. It has to provide simple answers to complex issues, especially in places where there is a lack of resources and technologies or in emergency situations. MiE acts to connect local NGOs with donors creating a network that promotes development, culture and knowledge. We aim to preserve cultural diversities by restoring and revitalizing traditional building systems. We also promote use of local labor and materials encouraging self-construction to build community autonomy and achieve social inclusion, as well as to provide training for designers. Our main goal is to combine ethical and aesthetic values to preserve and enhance people dignity: this is how architecture can become sustainable.
