PLAZA DASSO (architect as mediator)
San Isidro - Lima
This Project proposes the partial pedestrianisation of a wide street, converting it into a large public space. Dasso street currently has two functions: as a secondary street over crowded with informal taxis looking to benefit from the high pedestrian circulation, and as a public parking lot, making it a lost opportunity that could benefit from being an important urban centre. Dasso Street has a deficit of parking spaces due to the large amount of office and commercial uses fronting the street. As a response, our proposal as a private –public partnership uses a new underground parking lot to fund and allow for the liberation of the ground level as a public plaza. Through charging for parking, and improving the public realm, the project provides a disincentive to drive and a positive incentive to walk.
