BRITANICO CULTURAL CENTER
Lima, Peru - second prize
The new Britanico building should be tackled on a metropolitan scale. We thought of it in relation to a series of urban infrastructures which have already started to shape the new urban profile of Lima's northern axis. The building is autonomous but at the same time establishes a future growth pattern that can go beyond the present confines of its sites. These adaptations do not attempt against the project, on the contrary, they reinforce its identity. A series of parallel bars accommodate the classrooms linearly. In essence, the project depends on this unit: the classroom. It's the systematic repetition of this type which shapes the building. All of them share the same formal and organizational characteristics; they are typical. The building proposes a dichotomy between the highly functional classroom bars and the spatial freedom of the podium and its pedestrian role.
