The Joenniemi Manor, a nineteenth century villa that currently host the Gösta Museum, is located in an area characterized by a mixture of natural and cultural landscape, whose bond balance is made from the history of the place. The landscape as a place of collective identity to be protected, is the basis concept for the planned extension of Gösta Serlachius Museum. The design process identifies three main axis within the project site: the axis of history, the axis of men, the axis of nature. These were developed in a system according to the programmatic needs of the new museum, determining access, paths and prospectives of the new building. As a result, the enlargement of the nineteenth-century villa, as animated by its own life, extends his arms and juts out to search the lake.
