Ursa Major
Crèche + school - Rueyères Les Près
The project weaves a subtle relationship with the landscape. The topography of the site leads the design: the building has a compact volume with central staircase connecting split-levels. The presence of staggered floors allows to follow the slope of the terrain, while the volume itself adapts its shape to property lines. The inner distribution is configured as a continuous excavation leading from the entrance to the upper floors. Expanded to become a true common area, this section is divided into a sequence of significative environments. On each level, large windows fit different views on the outer landscape. Rich and varied spatially, the common area allows a cinematic vision of the outside on three sides. The school integrates the richness of the surrounding landscape, creating visual links with the territory and allowing a direct and constant relationship with with the local context.
