REQUALIFICATION OF THE "OMO MORTO" TOWER
SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA (LE)
The “Omo Morto” Tower is a building, unique in its typology, constructed for military purposes in the second half of the XVI century at the southernmost point of Santa Maria di Leuca sea-front. The idea of the project is to restore the Tower with the requalification of the surrounding areas, so to integrate the entire complex to the city sea-front promenade, of whom is the natural landmark and strong landscape architectural identity element. The morphological modeling of the area around the tower defines new accesses from the street and recovers, integrating the cropping out parts of the existing calcareous rock, the original basis level of the Tower through the definition of a system of stone terraces, ramps, steps and garden areas.
