A dark basement storage area was converted to a contemporary art gallery maximizing the flow of natural light and air while opening up visitor and artwork access, maintaining safety and increasing the gallery's public presence at street level. The design concentrated at defining thresholds and transition areas - the sidewalk arcade, the entry staircase, storage and WC backrooms and the garden, all communal spaces of the Greek Polykatoikia - followed by expansive, controlled, neutral exhibition areas.
