Small House H
Gunma, Japan - special prize
A guesthouse constructed in the old farmhouse used as a weekend house. The landscape surrounding the site contains a main building whose wall is perpetually under repair, a green fence which is old fashioned, a rusty fence that looks like it’s about to collapse, mossy old garden lanterns and so on, which was on the whole a bit unarranged. In order to EDIT such a landscape, the layout of the house was rotated and diagonal partition walls were inserted in its square plan. Each of the four triangular rooms has a large window, from which one sees its own distinctive view. What one sees from the window drastically changes as one moves from one room to another.
