Hotel Nobel
Belgrade - first prize
The Hotel Nobel celebrates the writings and ideas of the only Nobel Laureate to hail from Serbia and Yugoslavia: the famous Ivo Andric. Stylistically the Nobel combines the Belgrade-style with elements of Russian secessionism. Functional, constructional and design solutions, when combined with high quality materials and aesthetic elements, combine to produce unity and synthesis of this contemporary building together with ornaments of the past. The shadow of the old façade will remain forever present while the new curved-glass extension acts as curtain covering all apertures and merging with the historic building. The object is redeveloped, extended and the top floors’ glass conservatories extend through to terraces, the street front is equalized, continuity in form is created and the façade becomes viewable from key city points in the vicinity.
