In 2009, as one of 26, the project Strijp R is nominated for the Dutch award Mooi Nederlands Prijs, that stimulates development projects to improve the spatial qualities of cities and countryside in the Netherlands. Strijp R is to be a residential area on a former industrial site. Buro Lubbers designed the urban plan and public space, as well as formulated architect’s guidelines, in collaboration with diederendirrix architects. Respecting the industrial heritage of the place, Strijp R will be an urban and green residential quarter, unique for the city of Eindhoven. Besides relics of buildings, materials and already existing trees, sustainability and creativeness are paramount in the design.
