Poelgeest
Oegstgeest
The Poelgeest development was once part of a vast wetland. The DS design reconnects Poelgeest to historical natural structures. A number of measures have increased the recreational and natural relationships between the development and the wetland. The dikes are the cultural and historical focal points of the old polders. At the foot of the dikes, rows of trees have been planted and paths have been established. The trees also shield the area from urban influence. The land plays an important role in retaining water and filtering polluted water from the development. An ingenious system with reeds and other water plants filters the dirty water and transports it back to the housing estate.
