SPA, Residence and Shopping Gallery
Pozzuoli (Naples)
Restoration of the former Cinema "Lopez" and adaptation into a shopping gallery and restaurant; restoration of the XIXth century Thermal Bath and adaptation into a SPA and hotel-residence. A thermal spa of the XIXth century and a 1947 theatre are founded upon a monumental site of roman imperial age. The theme of the restoration is declined in the two different ways. In the “Terme Lopez” - a beautiful neoclassical bulding compomised by the 1983 earthquake and consequent bad restoration operations – the project aim is to philologically recompose the orginal architecture, while introducing new functions: a new spa and a residential hotel. We use the contemporary language only where history has erased any sign. In the theatre, which has more a historical than an architectural value, this contemporary language becomes predominant. Its former function will be radically transformed, into a commerical space and restaurant.
