Client's call for roof conversion of a single family house was answered by a proposal which turns the idea of a sattle roof, in formal, spatial and organisational terms, upside down. Spaces high enough for living, situated in the central part of a sattle roof, were pushed to the four edges of the house and are served by the low communication spaces in the center. This new „crown“ roof shape with its new four facades (instead of two) not only introduces a new architectural quality to the family house but eliminates the problematic obliqueness of the usual loft spaces – the rooms situated on the edges are easier to lit by window openings and also the furniture distrubution is more easier.
