Daleham Mews
London UK - finalist
Completed in 2007, Daleham Mews is a compact scheme in the heart of the Belsize Park Conservation Area. The brief was to provide additional space to accommodate the client's expanding family. The scheme more than doubles the usable area of the house. The treatment of the new elements creates a modulated façade from outside, where transparent, obscured and opaque elements are suspended above retained brickwork. The goal was to create a distinctive and refined modification that nonetheless retained the compact domestic charm and delight of the Mews. On the inside the arrangement allows for far views across North London but simultaneously respects the privacy of the adjoining properties.
