The ambition behind this scheme is for a lightweight and simple to erect structure that nonetheless has a dramatic and intriguing form. More importantly, however, the pavillion is intended to be a design ‘in the round’ that can be appropriated for a number of different uses and embodies a sense of fun and excitement. The structure is a conceptually simple combination of three hybrid steel / timber arches with a hybrid membrane roof. The geometry allows for the use of the pavillion as an enclosed space, sheltering the audience, or as a central bandstand with a larger audience filling the Castle grounds.
