Joining the European Union in 2004 and gaining its independence from Russia in 1991, Estonia reaffirms further its National Identity after several years of occupation through launching an International Competition for the design and execution of the Estonian National Museum. This competition for an ethnographic museum building of 28 000 m2 with a collection of 140 000 objects and pulic functions was won in January 2006 by DORELL GHOTMEH TANE / ARCHITECTS. The Project Jury consisted of international experts such as LORD Culture, Winy Maas/ MVRDV along with Estonian experts and architects.
