Gymnasium Dallgow-Döberitz - 22000mq
Brandenburg
The high school - located in a transitional zone at the edge of a residential area and the open landscape - was designed by Grüntuch Ernst Architects as a series of contrasting spaces linked with the outside world. The open, connecting interior spaces - between the corridors and hall, the auditorium and schoolyard - become an almost metamorphic external space. A characteristic horizontal accentuation is provided by the generous wooden terrace on the accessible roof - a deck used by the students during breaks. The school can be interpreted as spatial layers: an open-foyer square connecting the school to the adjacent settlement; an enclosed, protected schoolyard in the building’s centre; laterally functional open space on the sides of the building; and as open landscape - developing out of the central axis of the school and connected by a bridge - where the somewhat lower-lying athletic fields are located.
