Ugovizza, a small village between Villach (A) and Udine (I), is situated at the highway. After a devastating mudflow it is looking for a new start. The former train station area offers a very well located possibility to enlarge the village which lies between the highway and a mountain slope. A newly constructed amusement and culture centre shall become an attraction pole for both the nearby population and the visitors of close tourist centres. Instead of a total revitalisation of the remaining train station area we suggest a development strategy putting its emphasis on the creation of working places and the recovery of the local economy- stemming depopulation or in best case diminishing shall be achieved. The prevailing conditions are ideal: optimal transport connections, the village’s situation close to the border and the huge available area for expansion.
