Nuremberg - shortlisted
Südstadt is the most densely built district of the City of Nuremberg, where the configuration of close urban block typology created social integration problems. By re-interpreting the old medieval city spaces, where human scale urban dimensions led to better social interactions; the project was an `Urban Prototype`,which aimed to re-establish the right equilibrium and the right transparency within the urban block spaces and to create a new space for a future quality of living in the all area. The half timbered facades of the city center inspired the materiality of the inner facades and their patterns was mapped and re-assembled on perforated aluminium panels for the external facades of the block.
