ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF AQUILEIA
AQUILEIA - first prize
(with Nicola Sutto) The project has explored the territory of Aquileia, colony of the Roman Empire. The archaeological park is an opportunity to redevelop a part of the low plain, from the system of water, recalling a story of signs that are overlapped in time: the signs of the Roman centuriation and those of the modern reclamation. The main channel of the ancient land reclamation, the channel Amphora, now abandoned, was an integral part of the axes of the centuriation. The channel, through its reopening becomes a fundamental axis of the project, such as greenway to the archaeological park, as to recover the sense of the ancient hydraulic system. Today the progressive simplification of the landscape to extensive agriculture has caused a drastic reduction of arboreal systems and a decrease in biodiversity.
