In designing the aero-city, the challenge was to thread softly on the earth. To not only be sustainable unto itself but also to impact the city positively.
This was done through the provision of auxiliary highways, power generation through windmills and bio-mass etc.
The airport runways were located at the top of the city, above any of the cellular structures which serve to carry its towering frame. The ring / mesh nature of the plan gives one the impression of a lightweight structure above. Sort of like a cloud of concrete, which clad in white paneling and concrete gives minimal visual discomfort when viewed from below. Recreational activities such parks, and pedestrian arcades lined in green, also form a major part of the development, serving not only the residents but also the city below.
It should be noted that the cellular nature of the concept is owed to notion of a decentralization of the citives functions thus leading to an overall greater efficiency.
