Carbon-ated Footprint
The building isn't the only physical remnant, Wal-Mart's carbon emissions have left a new climatic condition: global warming. So, the HVAC system pressurizes the storm water drainage to "carbonate" the carcass. While the roadside spectacle spews building matter, global dimming returns the site to a cooler, pre-WM temperature. Meanwhile, the volumetric emission of bldg "birds" coincides with dove season, affecting local sport hunting. Killer Kudzu Introducing the South's notorious Kudzu, it engulfs the site loosening mortar and asphalt. Like a "Coming Soon" sign, maintenance tools appear and produce expectations of adaptive reuse as there are programmatic assumptions about their deployment-- this will never be delivered. Pruning will re-incarnate the Wal-Mart facade roadside and as it retreats through the seasons, like a tide, its interior forms are left behind. Is kudzu on the surfaces or is it now only cultivated form? Speculation gives it life while decaying. |
